28 Sep Business Tip: Avoid Insider Language
This morning in my inbox was a LinkedIn article called “Growing your business in a pandemic: Advice from this year’s Top Startups founders”. Eager to learn what these emerging entrepreneurs could add to the conversation, I clicked through immediately. As a business coach, I was particularly interested in knowing “when it’s time to move on to another idea” that was highlighted in the preview section of this post.
Not only was that question not clearly answered, the article was full of insider language like, “You want to create a blue team and red team in all your decisions.” I wonder if anyone else reading the article was asking the question, “What do you mean by that?”
If your customers or clients are asking that question when it comes to your marketing, then you haven’t clarified your message. And as the saying goes, “when you confuse, you lose”.
Avoid insider language at all costs. It confuses your customers and ultimately, costs you the sale.
